Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar

Bio

Indian-American astrophysicist who calculated, at the age of nineteen, the maximum mass of a stable white dwarf star, now called the Chandrasekhar limit, implying that heavier stars must collapse further. The result was publicly dismissed by Arthur Eddington and accepted decades later. He shared the 1983 Nobel Prize in Physics and worked for many years at the University of Chicago.
