Bio
British computer scientist who, while at CERN in 1989–1991, proposed and built the World Wide Web, writing the first browser, server, HTML specification and URL and HTTP schemes. CERN released the technology royalty-free in 1993. He founded the World Wide Web Consortium, and has since campaigned on web standards, open data and personal control of data.
