Bio

Athenian philosopher, student of Socrates and founder of the Academy, among the earliest institutions of higher learning in the Western world. His dialogues, including the Republic, Phaedo and Symposium, examine justice, knowledge, politics and the nature of reality, and introduced the theory of forms. His work shaped Western philosophy so thoroughly that later thinkers defined themselves in relation to it.
