Bio

Hungarian-American mathematician who made foundational contributions to game theory, quantum mechanics, numerical analysis and computing. The stored-program design described in his 1945 report on the EDVAC became the standard architecture for digital computers. He also worked on the Manhattan Project and on early nuclear strategy, and contributed to the theory of self-replicating automata.
