Bio
American computer scientist who created the C programming language at Bell Labs in the early 1970s and co-developed the Unix operating system with Ken Thompson. C and Unix shaped operating systems, networking software and programming practice for decades, and their descendants run in most modern computing environments. He received the Turing Award in 1983.
