Dorothy Hodgkin

Bio

British chemist who advanced X-ray crystallography to determine the three-dimensional structures of biologically important molecules, including penicillin, vitamin B12 and, later, insulin. She received the 1964 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, remaining the only British woman to have done so, and worked at Oxford for most of her career while campaigning on scientific cooperation across Cold War borders.
