Bio

Chinese-American experimental physicist whose 1956 cobalt-60 experiment demonstrated that parity is not conserved in weak nuclear interactions, overturning an assumed symmetry of physics. The theorists who proposed the test received the Nobel Prize; she did not. She also worked on the Manhattan Project's uranium enrichment and conducted research on beta decay and sickle-cell disease.
