Bio

Argentine cardiac surgeon who, working at the Cleveland Clinic in the late 1960s, standardised coronary artery bypass grafting using the saphenous vein, one of the most frequently performed operations of the following decades. He returned to Argentina to found a teaching and research foundation, and campaigned on access to cardiac care until his death by suicide amid the foundation's financial crisis.
