Bio

British economist whose The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money (1936) argued that aggregate demand drives output and employment and that governments can act to counter deep recessions. His ideas shaped post-war economic policy across many countries. He led the British delegation at the 1944 Bretton Woods conference, which established the IMF and the World Bank.
