Bio

Austrian-American film actor and inventor who, with composer George Antheil, patented a frequency-hopping spread-spectrum system in 1942 intended to prevent the jamming of radio-guided torpedoes. The US Navy did not adopt it at the time, but related techniques later informed secure and wireless communications. Her inventing work received little public recognition until late in her life.
