American songwriter whose work from the early 1960s, including Blowin' in the Wind and The Times They Are a-Changin', expanded the lyrical range of popular song. His move to electric instrumentation in 1965 divided the folk audience and reshaped rock music. He received the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature for creating new poetic expressions within the American song tradition.
