Bio

American physician and anthropologist who co-founded Partners In Health in 1987, building community-based treatment programmes in Haiti, Rwanda, Peru and elsewhere. He argued and demonstrated that complex treatments for HIV and drug-resistant tuberculosis could be delivered effectively in low-income settings, a position that changed global health policy. He also taught at Harvard Medical School.
