Jane Goodall

Bio

British primatologist whose long-term field study of wild chimpanzees at Gombe Stream in Tanzania, begun in 1960, documented tool use, hunting and complex social behaviour, altering scientific assumptions about the boundary between humans and other animals. She founded the Jane Goodall Institute in 1977 and the Roots & Shoots youth programme, and spent decades advocating for conservation and animal welfare.
