Bio
French naval officer, oceanographer and filmmaker who co-developed the Aqua-Lung in 1943, making self-contained underwater diving practical. His films and the television series The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau brought marine environments to mass audiences over decades, and he later campaigned against ocean dumping and for marine protection, including a moratorium on mineral exploitation in Antarctica.
